The safety of our riders is a top priority for us here at Zoomo, and we want to make sure that you and your bike are staying safe, especially as it gets warmer out and you see more bikes on the road.
Here are some things you can do to keep yourself safe while riding:
Wear bright and/or reflective clothing and make sure your bike is equipped with a light and bell. All of our Zoomo e-bikes have front and rear lights which help to make you more visible to pedestrians and cars on the roads.
Be prepared to brake slightly earlier than expected especially when coming up to busy paths and roads. Another consideration is hydraulic disc brakes which are available on select Zoomo e-bikes. These have superior stopping power compared to mechanical brakes.
Be mindful when getting on and off your e-bike and make sure that the frame is comfortable for you. At Zoomo we have a range of e-bikes that suit and cater to all the preferences and needs of our riders.
Following the direction of traffic keeps both you and other riders safe. Since bike lanes are already narrow, making sure to ride in the same direction prevents anyone from having to swerve out of the way, which could cause injuries.
Using the right hand signals to indicate movement helps to let drivers and other riders know where you’re going so they can anticipate your plan, and adjust theirs accordingly. This helps prevent accidents and makes the road safer for everyone.
Head injuries can be a huge risk when riding a bike without a helmet. A helmet acts an a barrier, so in the event of a fall or collision, the head would be better protected. Many bike riders have been protected from very serious injuries by wearing a helmet.
In addition to your own safety, the safety of your bike is very important. Having your bike stolen can cause huge inconveniences, so here are some tips you can use to prevent bike theft:
Keeping your bike locked when you're not riding is the first step to preventing theft. Even if you’re just stepping away for a few seconds, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Make sure your lock is strong and durable, and keep it on you at all times when riding. You'll also want to be sure you're using your lock correctly. You can check out video tutorials online or visit one of our stores for a demonstration.
Make sure you leave your bike in the safest place you can, ideally where you can see it. If there are bike racks around, consider locking your bike there. If not, under a streetlight or in a high-traffic area are best. An unattended bike out in the open with no lock is the perfect opportunity for a would-be bike thief.
Many bike thefts happen at night when no one is around to see. If you can, bring your bike inside with you at night so that it is not left unattended in the dark for an extended period of time.
Be aware, be present, and enjoy the ride! We'll see you on the road!
